I'm struggling right now with whether I have it in me to continue with my professional art practice. When something is so close to your heart, the disappointments and utter indifference cut deep.

I expose my soul with my art and put it out there for people to see (or judge, or not care). I navigate scammers, galleries, other artists, coaches and event organizers who try to take advantage.

I do it all to connect with a few precious souls who may feel or be moved by my work.

It can be lonely, maddening and endlessly frustrating. Is it worth it? Not so sure.

It took me five weeks to finish this 30x40" oil painting,"Ivy. " She has been a good friend of my son for several years, and it was delightful to paint her.

A painting this size sometimes takes me 6 months, but this one was a breeze and came together really well. The Ivy on the ground was a last edition I added at around midnight last night.

I've been loosening up with these colorful little

I've been loosening up with these colorful little oil sketches every day before I paint. It's a great way to get started and also to get creative with leftover paint on my palette.

I'm focusing on laying on color without mixing, using colors straight from the tube, and using black! Two of these are methods I've been told NOT to do, but everyone needs to find their own path. I use black, for instance, but rarely use it to mix a color.
